Elegantly wrapped in a classy black cover, Cuvée 120 Mesi Riserva Brut is the tribute that the House of Gancia is paying to the Alta Langa today. This great sparkling wine, fruit of the master cellarmen expertise and the winemaking techniques for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, selected from the best vineyards of the Alta Langa Docg area and matured on the lees for more than 10 years, represents the highest expression of the qualities of its “terroir”.
COMPOSITION OF THE CUVÉE: 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay
PRODUCTION METHOD: A very soft pressing of the grapes, harvested in small baskets, takes place in the Marmonnier press, located in the historical cellars built in the early 1800’s- classified today as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Only 50% of the juice becomes part of the cuvée. All the juice batches are then fermented in oak barrels and in sealed vats at controlled temperature. These juice batches rest on their lees for more than 6 months before they are blended to form a grand cuvée which will be bottle fermented with selected yeasts. The method of production is the bottle fermentation system (Metodo Tradizionale Classico) which lasts approximately 40 days in the bottle followed by a period of at least 120 months during which the product is aged in the Gancia cellars, at controlled temperature.
TASTING NOTES: Intense gold colour with very delicate, tiny bubbles, Gancia Cuvée 120 Mesi Riserva has a complex aroma of cocoa, yeast and toasted hazelnut. It shows a complex structure, with pronounced notes of bread crust, vanilla and yeast, leaving a persistent, lingering aftertaste.
FIRST VINTAGE: 2006
