Alta Langa Contessa Rosa Riserva Rosé

Contessa Rosa represents the true spirit of Fontanafredda: dedicated to Countess Rosa Vercellana, known as “Bela Rusin”, this sparkling wine is produced with grapes growing at altitudes of 400-650 m and expresses the combination of aromatic freshness and complexity typical of great wines such as Barolo. According to Fontanafredda’s tradition, this Alta Langa Rosé is produced with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, cultivated on white clay land with layers of chalky sand, and aged on yeasts for more than 30 months. The interesting element of the wine is the addition of a precious drop of Barolo 1967 DOC, which increases its uniqueness, complexity and character.

COMPOSITION OF THE CUVÉE: Pinot Nero 90%, Chardonnay 10%

PRODUCTION METHOD: Part of the Pinot Noir grape is crushed and left in contact with skins in thermo-conditioned tanks at 10°C for 12-24 hours. At the end of maceration takes place the regular soft pressing. The musts undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperature (18-20°C), and at the end the wine is kept in contact with the fine lees until spring. At this point the cuvée is made by blending the wines coming from the two fermentations. In May the wine undergoes a second fermentation in bottle, followed by a 48 months maturation process in yeasts, in the cool, dark and protected environment of cellars, according to the strictest rules of “Classic Method Sparkling Wine”. For the creation of this cuvée has been developed a new method, which involves the use of a liqueur d’éxpédition containing some drops of Barolo DOC 1967.

TASTING NOTES: The wine poured in the glass shows a straw yellow color and a persistent and thin perlage. It is possible to smell very intense aromas reminiscent of dried fruits, bread crust and honey, all wrapped by a fresh, fragrant and creamy taste.
