A rich, intense and fruitful 2023 comes to a close for the High Piedmontese Bubbles

Yet another year of growth for Alta Langa DOCG: in fact, a rich, intense and profitable 2023 closes for Piedmont’s Alte Bollicine, with a positive balance in sales volumes, in which the festive season is an excellent crowning achievement, and with the launch of new projects and the consolidation of others.

The year began with a new announcement for the expansion of the Alta Langa vineyard, which in the 2023 harvest has already increased from the 378 hectares of previous years to the current 440.5.

A ‘regal’ edition of La Prima dell’Alta Langa took place on 8th May at the Reggia of Venaria near Turin, once again shining the spotlight on the denomination, with 60 producers, 140 labels and 2000 trade visitors in attendance.
The event preceded the launch of the original ‘Soul of a Territory’ format by a few days, where restaurateurs, wine merchants and the trade press were invited around a single table to get to know, taste and exchange opinions on Alta Langa wines in combination with a food proposal from the territory represented by the cuisine of the historical trattorias of the upper Langa. In six stages – Turin, Milan, Genoa, Rome, Naples and Verona – the Consortium promoted the denomination and the territory as a whole.

A partnership was signed with the Teatro Regio of Turin, which brought Alta Langa bubbles to the heart of the Savoy capital, making them the stars of the gala dinner for the 50th anniversary of the new theatre, as well as accompanying the opening ceremony of the 2023 – 2024 Opera and Ballet season and the toasts to the “premiere” of all operas until June 2024.

In September, Alta Langa was present at Cheese, the great event dedicated to cheeses organised by Slow Food in Bra, and once again accompanied the New Year’s Eve celebration of the Alba White Truffle at the Conti di Roero Castle in Monticello was inaugurated the White Truffle search season with trifolao and their loyal dogs, which officially kicked off at midnight on 21st September, after the biological stop.
Soon after, on 7th October, the ribbon was cut on the 93rd International Alba White Truffle Fair, of which the Consortium is the Main Sponsor. Alta Langa was confirmed as the Official Sparkling Wine and during the nine weekends of the Fair, it was offered at the tasting counter in the Great Wine Bar and, above all in combination with the white truffle dishes prepared by the great chefs during the Cooking Shows and official dinners where it once again demonstrated its extraordinary gastronomic vocation.

The communication campaign “Alta Langa. Tutta un’alta storia.” (Alta Langa. A whole high/different story.) was launched between November and December in daily national newspapers, with full-page formats in Corriere della Sera and La Stampa, and in some trade magazines, to promote and make the wines of the Alta Bollicine Piemontese appellation known to an increasingly vast and interested public.

A group of influential international journalists was welcomed for an opportunity to compare and deepen their knowledge of the peculiarities of the Alta Langa appellation, offering a great tasting of 69 labels and a visit to some historic cellars. The first press tour for foreigners organised by the Consortium took place at the Banca del Vino in Pollenzo between November and December.

In this 2023 the book ‘Alta Langa – Il racconto di una denominazione’ (High Langa – The tale of a denomination) has finally seen the light of day. It is an accurate collection of essays that delve into the denomination at 360°: from the vineyard to its history, passing through tasting, pairings, and conservation up to the analysis of the anthropological and tourist potential of the territory. A work that the Consortium has been working on for some time and that will soon be the subject of a presentation.

Some numerous events and moments involved us throughout the year, such as tastings and in-depth workshops, always intending to promote, enhance and disseminate our denomination.

The year 2024 is just around the corner, and we already have an appointment that sees the Consorzio Alta Langa participating as a guest: Grandi Langhe, the two-day event organised by the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani and the Consorzio di Tutela Roero, at the OGR in Turin on 29th and 30th January. An institutional tasting desk will give visibility to the denomination by confronting an audience of professionals.

The eagerly awaited appointment with the sixth edition of La Prima dell’Alta Langa, the great annual tasting organised by the Consortium, will be announced in a few days.
